Red Bull Soapbox Race! エンジン無しの車レース

Seattle hosted a soap box car race in the Freemont area (where all fun things seem to happen.) It was sponsored by the Red Bull energy drink.
シアトルの（いつも楽しいイベントがある）フリーモント地区でエンジン無しのミニ・カー・レースがありました。スポンサーはエネルギー・ドリンクのレッド・ブルでした。


We voted, true to our colors, for the Microsoft sponsored car. (Zune is the Microsoft IPod.)
マイクロソフトからも出場車があってそれに私たちは投票しました。

There was a car that looked like the famous Freemont Troll.
これはシアトルで有名なフリーモントのトロル。

The course was all down hil with a big turn in the middle. The racers told us that it's a really fast track as far as soap box races go. Some cars said they were tested up to 50 mph (30 kph).
エンジンがない車だからレースは全部下り坂で、真ん中あたりに大きなターンがあるコースでした。出場者曰く、このコースはかなり早く行けるコースで時速30キロまで出る（らしい）車も。

We had to leave before the end of the race to take care of some last errands before flying to Japan.
私たちは残念ながらその日は用事があったからレースは見ずに帰って来ました。

Locks 水門

While Sarah was visiting, Nile and Sarah went to the Ballard Locks. Although not admitting that to each other, neither was too excited before getting there, but once there they had a blast!
セラが遊びに来ている間にバラードの水門に行きました。お互い、行ってみる前は正直言うと面白く無さそうな気がしていたけど着いてみたら凄く楽しかったです。

We didn't see any salmon shooting out (like the diagram on right). 　:-(
右の図に描いて有るような魚の飛び出る瞬間は見れませんでした。残念。

Nonetheless, there were plenty of salmon going up the fish ladder.
それでも、魚の階段の所についたら鮭がいっぱいました。

Sarah K! セラ・K！

Our friend Sarah K. visited from New York for a week.
友達のサラK.がニュー・ヨークから一週間遊びに来ました。

Here are Sarah R, Kara, Nile, and Sarah K down at Pike Place Market. It was a bright and gorgeous day. We headed over to Bainbridge Island to go to a winery.
サラ R、キャラ、ナイル、サラ K、とマット（写真外）でパイク・プレース・マーケットに行きました。とっても綺麗な日でみんなでベンブリジのワイナリーに行きました。


We decided to take a bus and walk the last bit. Sarah got a little bored, and started playing with the oven mit that she bought downtown.
バスから降りてワイナリーまで少し歩きました。サラは少し退屈になって、ダウン・ダウンで買ったばかりのオーブン・ミットで遊び始めました。

The winery was very picturesque. Here is a horse that they keep there.
ワイナリーはとっても綺麗でした。馬もいました。

Above is a picture of grapes. After drinking several glasses of wine, we were pretty drunk. This is a picture Matt took of Sarah taking a picture of Sarah taking a picture of the grapes.
上の写真は葡萄です。ワインを何杯か飲んだら酔っ払いました。下の写真はマットが撮った、サラがサラの写真を撮っているところです。

After the winery, we went to our favorite restaurant, Shima.
ワイナリーの後は、大好きな志摩でご飯。

They made a special sushi plate for us to try some brand new ideas that Sussy had. It was delicious. We especially liked the maguro (tuna) on mango with pine nuts.
新メニューも食べさせてもらえました。とっても美味しかったです。一番好きだったのは、マグロとマンゴの刺身に松の実を載せたのでした。

At the restaurant, we had sake. It was a good evening.
レストランでもっとお酒を飲んでとってもいい夜でした。

Sand Castles 砂のお城

On our way to Bainbridge, we came across this in the center of downtown.
ベンブリッジに行く途中、繁華街でこれを見つけました。

This is a starbucks sponsored sand castle building exhibition. Notice that all the animals have coffees.
スタバの宣伝のために砂の展覧会が開かれてました。動物はみんなコーヒーを持ってます。

It was an advertisement for one of their frozen drinks, hence the polar theme. It's odd to see penguins and polar bears on the same ice float.

冷たい飲み物の宣伝だから南／北極がテーマです。ペンギン（南極）と白熊（北極）が仲良く遊んでる所が謎でした。

zoo show 動物園ショー

We went to an Old Crow Medicine Show show at the zoo with Bridget, and Eldon. We sat on the lawn and had a great picnic!
オールド・クロー・メディスン・ショーの動物園ショーにブリジットとエルドンと一緒に行って来ました。芝生に座って最高のピクニックでした。

Over the top wedding凄すぎる結婚式

Aliyah was in town, so we went out to get what we heard was the best Caribbean food in the city. The restaurant was really busy, so we went to our new favorite park, Gasworks.
友達のアリアが遊びに来てたからカリブ料理を食べに行きました。着いたらとっても忙しかったからテイク・アウトにして最近お気に入りのガス・ワーク・パークにピクニックに行きました。
　
There happened to be some big event going on. 着いたらとっても大きなイベンが。
　　　
A police boat was shooting water into the air as a "Just Married" Duck Tour boat went by. People were dancing in the street on stilts to a live band. It turned out to be the wedding of the CEO of ClearWire. We heard later that the guests didn't know they were going to a wedding.
警察のボートが噴水ショーをしている間を新婚の看板を付けたダック・ボートが通っていきました。バンドやダンサーもいました。ClearWireの社長の結婚式でした。後から聞いた話、結婚式のお客さんは結婚式に行く事を知らなかったらしいです。

　　

Around 10:00 there was a fireworks show. There were even some heart shaped ones.
１０時ごろ花火が始まりました。ハート型の花火もありました。
　　
The show was really impressive with a large variety of fireworks and music to accompany it.
色々な花火場上がる中、音楽もあって、たただだ凄い花火のショーでした。

Dhalia ダリア

We stopped by the Dahlia Bakery for some deliciousness before heading over to Shima on Bainbridge Island.
志摩に行く前にダリア・ベーカリーによって行きました。

Nile and Matt shared an eclair. It was delicious and Matt worried waiting for his turn.
エクレアを半分こしました。マットは自分の番を心配しながら待ってます。

They also make fantastic candy. These are mints and gummy fish.
美味しいお菓子も売ってます。ミントとグミです。

Cupcakes, cookies, pies... 　カップ・ケーキ、クッキー、パイ。

Sitka and Spruce シッカ・アンド・スプルース

We hadn't been to Sitka and Spruce since our Anniversary. With Takashi in town, we had to go somewhere with inspirational food.

One of the best things we had was this corn flour gnochi. It is a lot like polenta.

The chef (named Matt) remembered us from last time we were there. It's a really friendly place.

Sea Fair シー・フェア

This weekend was Sea Fair weekend. 　今週末はシー・フェアでした。

The Blue Angels did an air show. Above they are leaving smoke trails.
ブルー・エンジェルス（アメリカ海軍の航空ショー隊）飛行機雲を残しながら飛んでます。

Flying in formation as people look on. 位置について飛んでる飛行機にみんな見入ってます。

At one point they got fairly close to where we were. It sure was loud!
最後のほうで凄く近くを飛んで行きました。とってもうるさかったです。

Red Mill レッドミル

Matt and Takashi always go eat hambergers no matter where they meet up. This trip was no exception. :-)
マットと隆は、会ったら必ず世界中どこででもハンバーガーを食べに行きます。もちろんこの旅行も例外では有りません。



Matt's parents recomened peanut butter with hambergers so we took our own. It was good.
マットの両親がハンバーガーにピーナッツバターを乗せて食べると美味しいと聞いてピーナツバター持参で行きました。美味しかった。

Everyone visits all at once! みんな一度に勢ぞろい! (and moter home tour)（とモーターホームツアー）

Matt's parents, Nile's mom and her step dad, her step grand mother, and Nile's dad all visited this weekend. It was a good thing they didn't all stay with us because our house is not that big!Matt's parents put on a little concert with Matt for everyone else.

マットの両親、ナイルの母、継父、継祖母、そしてナイルの父がみんな今週末遊びに来ました。幸いな事にみんな家には泊まりませんでした。家はそんなに大きくないからね。マットの両親とマットの三人でミニコンサートをしてくれました。




They brought their book along because Matt can't remember the lyrics.
マットが歌詞を覚えてないから本を持ってきてくれました。


After a dinner with everyone, Takashi, Matt and Nile went to see Matt's parent's motor home that they travel around in for six months out of the year because Takashi always wanted to see it.
みんなでご飯を食べた後で父が長年見たかったと言うマットの両親がモーターホーム（毎年半年ぐらい旅をする）を三人で見に行きました。



Takashi got to sit in the cab. Matt's dad was thrilled that Takashi was having a good time.
運転席まで乗ってみてます。マットのお父さんはこんなに喜んでくれる人久しぶりみたいでとっても笑顔。



The rig is 40 feet long (13 meters). They tow a Truck behind it with a kayak on top.
このモーターホームは13メートル（40フィート）。カヤックを屋根に積んだトラックを後ろにくっつけて移動します。


Inside is very cozy and has all the essential elements of home.
中は大きくないけど必要なものはそろってます。
