Seeing Natalie in Portland ナタリとポートランド

Our friend Natalie came to visit Portland all the way from Indiana so we went to see her and her girlfriend, Leslie from Rhode Island. We have been wanting to go to Portland to go to Voodoo Donuts so we went with them. When we arrived, in pouring rain, there was a well used index card on the door that said that there is currently a wedding going on inside and they will re-open at 11. We were outside talking about if we should go and come back later or just wait. While we were talking, the store re-opened so we went in. Inside there was nothing that gave away that there was a wedding going on. No groom, no bride, no flowers to be seen. We still don't know if there was a wedding or it was just a hoax.

All in all, it was a fun adventure that included donuts. Matt's favorite kind of adventure.

トロントに住んでいたころからの友達のナタリとガールフレンドのレスリーがポートランドに来たから会いに行って来ました。せっかくだからしばらく行って見たいと思っていたヴードゥードーナツへ行きました。大雨の中着いたら、只今結婚式が行われてるから１１時また開店しますって書いてあるサインが表にはって有りました。どうしようか話してる間に店が開いたから入ったら、結婚式に有りそうなものが１つもありません。花嫁、花婿、花、何にもありません。今でも本当に結婚式があったかははっきりしてないです。

最終的にはとっても楽しいドーナツを含めたアドベンチャーでした。マットの一番好きなタイプのアドベンチャーでした。

Lunchbox Laboratory ランチボックス・ラボラトリー

For dinner tonight, we went to Lunchbox Laboratory. They have lots of different types of hamburger with many, many different toppings along with a wide range of milk shakes.
今夜の晩御飯は弁当箱実験室と言う意味の名前レストランに行きました。沢山の種類のトッピングのハンバーガーといろいろな味のミルクシェーキの有る店です。

While waiting for our order, we looked at all the lunch boxes decorating the restaurant and since we were all science majors, we all liked the Metric lunch box.

注文を待ってる間飾ってあるランチボクッスを見ていて理系のみんなが気に入ったのはメートル法の宣伝用のランチボックスでした(アメリカでは今でもメートル法じゃなく、その昔の大英帝国時代の単位を使ってます。一時期メートル法に移る運動があったから、このランチボックスはその名残だと思います)。

The hamburgers are very decedent. Matt got one with bacon and truffle oil (photo on left). The sweet potato fries were fantastic!

とても贅沢なハンバーガーでした。マットのハンバーガー(写真左）は沢山のベーコンとトリフ・オイル付でした。スイートポテトのフライは絶品でした。

The milk shakes that come out are in 400ml beakers and they are make with super heavy cream and they are yummy, if you can ignore what it might do to your arteries. Matt had the key lime pie shake and it was amazing.

４００ｍｌのビーカーに入って出てきたミルクシェーキは乳脂肪が特に高いクリームで作ってあって心臓動脈への影響を無視するととても美味しかったです。特にマットの頼んだキーライム・パイ味は素晴らしかったです。

Fall Colors 紅葉

Seattle is aiming to be a city with one tree per couple. As a result, there are a lot of beautiful trees. Happy fall, everyone.
シアトル市は人口二人に対して木一本を目指してます。だからとても沢山綺麗な木が有ります。皆さん、良い秋を過ごしてください。

Nile's Brithday ナイルの誕生日

For Nile's birthday, we went to her favorite restaurant, Corson Building with John and Russell. The chef, Matt, cooks large plates of food and all the guests sit around a big table sharing food, as if you're eating at Matt's house.
ナイルの誕生日にコルソン・ビルにジョンとラッセルとマットで行きました。シェフのマットの家に行った感じにデザインしてあるレストランは大きなテーブルにみんなで座って大皿料理を取り分けて食べます。

The main was chicken. The liver was cooked with endives and hazelnuts and the meat was cooked simply. Since Nile doesn't' eat check, she got stake with endives and hazelnuts.
メインはチキンでした。肝はエンダイヴとへーゼルナッツと料理してあったけど、肉自体はとてもシンプルでした。ナイルはチキンを食べないから代わりにステーキとエンダイヴとへーゼルナッツを食べました。

Dessert was cookies, poached quince and local cheese. They gave us plum jam to take home.
デザートはクッキーとクインツを甘く煮たのとチーズでした。お土産にプラムのジャムをもらいました。

Because Celine reminded Matt about red velvet cake, he ran to Trophy Cupcakes in his office building and brought home cake for Nile.

友達のセリーヌがマットにナイルがどれだけレッド・ベルベット・ケーキが好きかコメントをしたから家に帰る前に事務所の建物内に有るトロフィー・カップケーキによってお土産に持って帰ってきてくれました。

Haunted Gingerbread Housesハロウィーンのジンジャーブレッドの家

We took a class with the Cake decoration teacher that Matt has had classes with before. We made haunted gingerbread houses. The roof of Nile's caved in a little making it look especially spooky.
マットの好きなケーキデコレーションの先生のハロウィーンのジンジャーブレッドの家のデコレーションのクラスに二人で行ってきました。特にナイルの家は屋根が沈んでとってもハロウィーンにぴったりに出来上がりました。

Tilth

For our monthly dinner with Donna and Spencer, we went to Tilth, this month. It's an organic, local, etc. restaurant that has been on our list for a while. Although the food combinations were conservative, it was very well prepared and tasty.
友達のドナとスペンサーと新しいレストランを試す会を毎月してます。今月の行き先は、Tilth。ローカル、有機の材料を使う、しばらく行きたかった店です。食べ物のコンビネーションは特別びっくりするものは無かったけど、丁寧に作られた料理は美味しかったです。

Matt's Surprise! マットの驚き

Russell offered Nile to make a birthday dinner for Matt on Sunday. Matt didn't know anything about this. We came home from Vancouver and Matt was a little hungry. Nile, who usually make dinner because she is a picky-er eater, didn't start cooking. Matt thought she was just super grumpy. After Nile got a text from Russell, she sent Matt out for a walk with Elmo. While the two were out, Russell and John came to the house with dinner. Dinner was Matt's favorite: Beef stew with Yorkshire Pudding and Chocolate lasagna with rhubarb. When Matt came through the front door, he asked why the door was locked so Nile answered because we have a surprise for you! Matt was blow away. Thanks Russell! Thanks John! Everything was very good.
日曜日ラッセルがマットに誕生日ディナーを作ってくれると先週ナイルに言いました。マットは何も知りませんでした。帰り着いた時マットは少しお腹が空いてました。ナイルのほうが好き嫌いが多いからいつもナイルが晩御飯を作ります。でも、なかなか作り始めませんでした。マットはただ機嫌が悪いんだろうと思ってました。もうすぐ着くとのテキストの後、ナイルはマットにエルモの散歩に行ってもらいました。留守中にジョンとラッセルが晩御飯を持ってきてくれました。晩御飯はマットの大好きなビーフシチューとヨークシャープディング（ポップオーバーみたいなふわふわな卵沢山のパン）とルバーブ入りのチョコレートラザニア。帰ってきたときなんで玄関に鍵がかかってるのとマットが聞いたからびっくりさせるため!とナイルが答えました。マットはとっても驚きました。ラッセルありがとう!ジョンありがとう!とても美味しかったです。
