Everyone visits all at once! みんな一度に勢ぞろい! (and moter home tour)（とモーターホームツアー）

Matt's parents, Nile's mom and her step dad, her step grand mother, and Nile's dad all visited this weekend. It was a good thing they didn't all stay with us because our house is not that big!Matt's parents put on a little concert with Matt for everyone else.

マットの両親、ナイルの母、継父、継祖母、そしてナイルの父がみんな今週末遊びに来ました。幸いな事にみんな家には泊まりませんでした。家はそんなに大きくないからね。マットの両親とマットの三人でミニコンサートをしてくれました。




They brought their book along because Matt can't remember the lyrics.
マットが歌詞を覚えてないから本を持ってきてくれました。


After a dinner with everyone, Takashi, Matt and Nile went to see Matt's parent's motor home that they travel around in for six months out of the year because Takashi always wanted to see it.
みんなでご飯を食べた後で父が長年見たかったと言うマットの両親がモーターホーム（毎年半年ぐらい旅をする）を三人で見に行きました。



Takashi got to sit in the cab. Matt's dad was thrilled that Takashi was having a good time.
運転席まで乗ってみてます。マットのお父さんはこんなに喜んでくれる人久しぶりみたいでとっても笑顔。



The rig is 40 feet long (13 meters). They tow a Truck behind it with a kayak on top.
このモーターホームは13メートル（40フィート）。カヤックを屋根に積んだトラックを後ろにくっつけて移動します。


Inside is very cozy and has all the essential elements of home.
中は大きくないけど必要なものはそろってます。

Harry Potter Party

Since it is the last book, we went to a Harry Potter Party. After being told that ParkPlace Books in Kirkland has the best party, Nile pre-ordered the book for Matt. Not sure about the whole thing, she wasn't really sure about paying the full price of the book while everyone else had it for less. Upon considering $5 for each of us for a great party, the full price seemed okay to pay. We got there a little past 9 and it was already getting pretty crowded.
シリーズ最後の本だからハリーポッターの本のパーティーに行くことにしました。友達にカークランドのパーティーが一番と聞いてナイルはマットの本を注文しました。どんなパーティーか知らないナイルは他の本屋が格安で売っている本を定価で買うのはどうかと思ったけど一人$５のパーティーと考えたら定価でも悪くないと考え直しました。９時ちょっとすぎに付いた本屋は結構忙しくなってきてます。

Upon getting to the book store, there was a sorting hat that assigned everyone to the different houses. We both got assigned to Ravenclaw.
着いたらどの寮に入るか店の人が選んでくれました。私達は二人ともレイヴェンクロー寮に選ばれました。

The books were securely covered under the chain and lock and in the boxes.
本は安全に鍵とチェーンで守られている上に箱に入ってました。

Snape supporters and Snape opponents both showed up.
スネイプ応援者もスネイプ反対者も来ました。

Starting at around 11pm, the line started forming. Here you can see sleepy Matt lined up in front of Doumbledore.
１１時ごろ皆並び始めました。眠そうなマットの後ろにはダンブルドア校長が並んでます。

At 11:45, Haggrid came riding into the book store in his red bike.
１１時４５分ごろハグリッドが赤いバイクに乗って本屋に乗り込んできました。

After the countdown till midnight, Matt got his book!

カウントダウンの後でマットはやっと本を手に入れました。

The evening was totally worth $10!

$１０ドルの価値はある夜でした。

Grilled Pizza グリルピザ

We made pizza using our friend's grill. Toppings were tomato sauce, mozzarella and shisho (a Japanese "basil" in the mint family).

友達のセラのうちでバーべキュウを使ってピザを作りました。トッピングはトマトソース、モッザレラ、紫蘇です。

market マーケット

Matt likes squashes but doesn't like eggplants and Nile likes eggplants but not squashes. Can you tell which plate is for whom?
マットはスクワッシュは好きだけどナスが嫌い。ナイルはナスは好きだけどスクワッシュは嫌い。どっちがどっちのか分かる?

We also had some carrots and ternups. にんじんと蕪も食べました。

picnic ピクニック

We went for lazy picnic with our friend Sarah, at Gasworks Parks, with Red Mill Bergers (best burgers in town). We were all smily (Nile not pictured).
友達のサラと一緒にガスワークパークにレッドミルバーガー（シアトル１のハンバーガー）持参でだるいピクニックに行きました。みんな笑顔（ナイルは写真外）。


While eating, we were talking about how the street lights match the space needle very well.
ご飯中の会話は街頭がスペースニードルととってもマッチしていることでした。

Tomato Dinner

Today's dinner was filled with tomatos. We had tri color tomato salad (sorry had to see the three colors--they are green, red and purple-ly red) with small mozzarella and shisho with balsamic vinegerette dressing. Matt has really started like tomatos :-)
今日の晩御飯はトマトがいっぱい。三色トマトのサラダ（ちょっと見難くてごめんね。三色は緑、赤、紫っぽい赤です。）それに小さいモッザレラチーズとしそにバルサミコのドレッシングをかけました。マットもトマトが大好きになりつつあります。

The other course was cabbage and tomoato pasta, recipie from (you guess it) Mark Bittman. We didnt' have lingunini that he recomnded so we used angel hair but it had to be a thiker pasta because it didn't hold up against the cabbage. Maybe next time, it will be better.
もうひとつのコースはキャベツとトマトのパスタ。これは又マーク・ビットマンのレシピ。太めのパスタが無かったから細いのを使ったらキャベツに負けてしまいました。次回はもう少し美味しく作れると思う。

Popsicle アイスキャンデー

Recently, we've been addicted to mint fudgicles. It is very good with small chocolate in it. We make it by mixing mint simple syrup with chocolate milk and freezing it in a popsicle mold.
最近ミントチョコのアイスキャンデーにはまってます。凄く小さいチョコレートを入れるとなお美味しいです。私達はミントシロップをチョコレート牛乳に混ぜてアイスキャンデー型に流し込んで作ってます。

Straberry Short Cake イチゴのショートケーキ

Today Matt had a lot of egg white left over from making curds, so he made angelfood cake, which we had with ample whipped cream and strawberries. So much for the fat free cake.
今日はカード作りで残った卵白を使ってマットはエンジェルフードケーキ（卵白だけを使ったシュフォンケーキ）を作ったから沢山の生クリームとイチゴと食べました。ケーキは無脂肪だったのに。

tanabata 七夕

We celebrated tanabata by writing wishes on bamboo in our courtyard this year. Nile usually forgets it and so this was the first time Matt got to celebrate it.
今年は短冊に願い事を書いて庭の笹にくくり付けて七夕のお祝いをしました。いつもナイルが忘れてしまうから今回がマットの初めての七夕でした。

Papusas! パプサ！

We used to eat papusas in Kensington Market in Toronto. Nile had a craving for them, so we looked up a recipe after calling Marc because we couldn't remember what they were called. Papusas are a food from El Salvador, and it is like a corn pancake with stuffing: cheese, beans, or meat. They are traditionally served with a cole-slaw they call curtido.
トロントに住んでいたころ、ケンジングトン・マーケットでパプサを食べてました。今日ナイルが食べたかったから名前すら忘れてしまっていた私達はまず友達のマークに電話。パプサはエル・サルバドールの食べもで、とうもろこしのパンケーキの中にチーズや豆や肉が詰めてあるものです。伝統的にはキャベツのサラダ（クールティドと呼ばれる）といしょに食べます。

The papusas came out pretty well, but we have some ideas for next time. Primarily, we need to make them thinner.
結構美味しくできたけど次回の為のアイデイアはいろいろあります。何よりも次回はもっと薄く作りたいです。

Curds カード

Matt's been really in to making curds. Following last week's success of red current curd tart, he made more.
マットは最近カード（凝乳したジャムみたいなもの）にはまってます。先週パイに使ったカシスのカードが成功だったからもう一度作ってくれました。

Since we also had key limes, he made key lime curd as well.
ついでにキー・ライムもあったのでキー・ライム・カードも。

Today we went through 15 eggs. 6 went into the curds, 3 into crepes, and 6 into omlettes. (We had a friend over for brunch.)
ちなみに今日はなんと１５個も卵を使いました。６個はカードに、３個はクレープに、６個はオムレツに(今日は友達がブランチに来ました)。

Scallion Pancakes ねぎのパンケーキ

Nile made a fabulous dinner mostly out of things we got from our local farm food box. The menu was cooked turnips; salad with peas, carrots, cucumber, and tomato; and scallion pancakes. Nile tried a new recipe from Mark Bittman for the scallion pancakes, and they came out really well.
今日ナイルは野菜のお取り寄せの箱で届いたものを使って晩御飯を作りました。メニューは蕪の煮物、豆、人参、胡瓜、トマトのサラダとねぎのパンケーキ。ねぎのパンケーキは最近大好きなマーク・ビットマンのレシピ。美味しかったです。

Happy 4th of July! ７月４日おめでとう。

For the 4th we went over to Sarah's house for BBQ dinner. We went to our favorite little beach on the lake to catch some rays since the weather was so nice. Then we barbequed some ribs that Nile prepared, and had this red current custard tart for dessert. We were so excited about the ribs that we forgot to take a photo. The ribs had a wet rub of apple jelly, rosmary, garlic, onion, and hot pepper.
７月４日の建国記念日はサラのうちでバーベーキュウをしました。でもその前に天気が良かったから大好きな池沿いのビーチで日向ぼっこをしました。バーベーキュウはナイルが用意したリブをしましたそしてカシス・カスタード・タルトをデザートに食べました。リブを食べるのに夢中だった私達は写真をとり忘れました。リブはローズマリー、りんごジャム、にんにく、玉葱そして鷹の爪で作りました。

Mint Gelatin and Tomatos ミントジェラチンとトマト

Last week we got two bunches of mint at the farmer's market. Nile had the brilliant idea of making it into mint gelatin after seeing our friend's blog. If anyone has tips on making it stay green, please let us know. Since we don't know the trick, mint desserts always come out brown tinted (sigh). This time we infused the mint flavor in simple syrup by soaking it over night. We also folded in whipped cream before gelling it making it more like a mousse.
先週ファマーズマーケットでミントを二束買ってきました。お友達の島田さんのサントノーレのブログを見てミントのゼリーを作ることにしました。ミントをたくさん使いながら綺麗な緑の色を保つ方法を知っていたら教えてください。コツを知らない私達のミントデザートは毎回茶色がっかてる（涙）。今回私達は砂糖のシロップにミントを一晩漬け置きしました。それに泡立てたクリームを加えてちょっとムースっぽくしてみました。

At the farmer's market today we got some amazing tomatos. They were "seconds" which means they look a little funny, but taste at least as good. We made them into a very simple tomato sauce and served it with pasta and parmasian. Matt is thinking twice about tomatos now after not really liking them for decades.
今日のファマーズマーケットの買い物はトマト。第二のトマトだから第一ほど形は整ってないけど味は同じ。とってもシンプルなトマトソースを作ってパルメジャーノチーズと一緒に食べました。このトマトを食べて何十年もトマト嫌いだったマットはトマトに関して考え直し始めました。

Doraemon Ramen ドラえもんラーメン

Matt wanted ramen for dinner so Nile made it. After placing the eggs, Nile figured out that she can make dinner into Matt's favorite robot-cat, Doraemon. It might be hard to see, but Doraemon is happily smiling not knowing what is going to happen next.
マットがラーメン食べたいって言い出したから今夜の晩御飯はラーメン。卵を載せた後でこれは!と気がついたからマットの大好きなドラえもんにしました。見にくいかも知れないけど次に何が起こるか知らないドラえもんはとっても笑顔。

Bunny! ウサギ!

This morning, before we left for work, there was a bunny across the street from our house! It was hopping away and suddenly, as if it realized it was hungry, it started munching on grass. As expected, since it was hanging out in front of a elementary school, it was no longer there when we came home.
今日仕事に行く前に家の向かいになんとウサギが!　ピョンピョン逃げていたのがお腹すいたのに気がついたようにいきなり草を食べ始めました。思った通り小学校の前にいたから仕事から帰ってきたらいませんでした。

Sunday Pork Dinner 日曜日の豚肉御飯

We had the mistakenly bought the wrong pork that Matt for dinner. Originally, we were going to put cooked meat into a salad but since he got raw pork, we suddenly changed our plans. We tried out the way we saw it cooked on the NY Times Video. It was really good! We welcome mistakes like this any time!
マットが間違えて買ってきた豚肉が今日の晩御飯でした。本当は料理してあった肉をサラダに入れる予定が生肉を買ってきたため急遽予定変更。NYタイムズのビデオの真似をして料理しました。美味しかった!こういう間違いはいつでも大歓迎!
