Thanksgiving 感謝祭

We were thankful for a lot this year. One of which was the Bloody Mary Jennie made. When Matt wasn't looking, Jennie added a whole lot more booze.

今年は感謝するべき事が多かったです。その一つはジェニーの作ったブラディー・メリーでした。マットが見てない間にジェニーは沢山アルコールを継ぎ足しました。

Russell made the turkey. He wrapped the whole bird in bacon. Nile doesn't eat birds so she got beef.

ラッセルが七面鳥を料理しました。七面鳥はベーコンに包んでからオーブンへ。ナイルは鳥を食べないから代わりに牛肉。

Joy of Cooking's pumpkin pie, Alice Water's apple custard pie, Mike and Minna's red velvet cake. Dessert was served with sour apple sorbet and pomegranate sorbet both made by John.

The night before Thanksgiving 感謝祭の前の日

This year Nile didn't have to cook a whole Thanksgiving dinner, thus we made a pate. Since it was her first time, she made a non-liver pork, beef and mushroom pate wrapped in prosciutto. We were able to get matsutake and porcini so it was a very decedent pate. Next time, we want to try a pate with liver

今年ナイルは感謝祭の料理をしなくて良かったから代わりにパテをみんなで作りました。初めて作るからレバー無しの豚肉と牛肉ときのこのパテを作りました。松茸とポッチーニ入りのパテを生ハムで包んだ贅沢なパテでした。次回はがんばってレバー入りのパテを作ってみたいです。

Cantinetta キャンティネッタ

For this month's dinner outing with Donna and Spencer, we went to Cantinetta. We thought　that some of the dishes were a bit salty and heavy for our taste.
今月のドナとスペンサーとの外食会はキャンティネッタでした。私達の感想は頼んだお皿の幾つかは少し塩辛くて重かったです。

Razelle ラゼル

Nile's college friend, Razelle came to visit Seattle with her family. Dov, her husband, was busy so Razelle and Saadiah went to explore Seattle with Nile. They went to Pike Place Market and the Central Library.
ナイルの大学の同級生のラゼルが家族と一緒に遊びに来ました。旦那さんのドヴは仕事があったからラゼルと息子のサーディアとでシアトル観光をしました。パイク・プレース・マーケットと中央図書館に行きました。

Seeing Natalie in Portland ナタリとポートランド

Our friend Natalie came to visit Portland all the way from Indiana so we went to see her and her girlfriend, Leslie from Rhode Island. We have been wanting to go to Portland to go to Voodoo Donuts so we went with them. When we arrived, in pouring rain, there was a well used index card on the door that said that there is currently a wedding going on inside and they will re-open at 11. We were outside talking about if we should go and come back later or just wait. While we were talking, the store re-opened so we went in. Inside there was nothing that gave away that there was a wedding going on. No groom, no bride, no flowers to be seen. We still don't know if there was a wedding or it was just a hoax.

All in all, it was a fun adventure that included donuts. Matt's favorite kind of adventure.

トロントに住んでいたころからの友達のナタリとガールフレンドのレスリーがポートランドに来たから会いに行って来ました。せっかくだからしばらく行って見たいと思っていたヴードゥードーナツへ行きました。大雨の中着いたら、只今結婚式が行われてるから１１時また開店しますって書いてあるサインが表にはって有りました。どうしようか話してる間に店が開いたから入ったら、結婚式に有りそうなものが１つもありません。花嫁、花婿、花、何にもありません。今でも本当に結婚式があったかははっきりしてないです。

最終的にはとっても楽しいドーナツを含めたアドベンチャーでした。マットの一番好きなタイプのアドベンチャーでした。

Lunchbox Laboratory ランチボックス・ラボラトリー

For dinner tonight, we went to Lunchbox Laboratory. They have lots of different types of hamburger with many, many different toppings along with a wide range of milk shakes.
今夜の晩御飯は弁当箱実験室と言う意味の名前レストランに行きました。沢山の種類のトッピングのハンバーガーといろいろな味のミルクシェーキの有る店です。

While waiting for our order, we looked at all the lunch boxes decorating the restaurant and since we were all science majors, we all liked the Metric lunch box.

注文を待ってる間飾ってあるランチボクッスを見ていて理系のみんなが気に入ったのはメートル法の宣伝用のランチボックスでした(アメリカでは今でもメートル法じゃなく、その昔の大英帝国時代の単位を使ってます。一時期メートル法に移る運動があったから、このランチボックスはその名残だと思います)。

The hamburgers are very decedent. Matt got one with bacon and truffle oil (photo on left). The sweet potato fries were fantastic!

とても贅沢なハンバーガーでした。マットのハンバーガー(写真左）は沢山のベーコンとトリフ・オイル付でした。スイートポテトのフライは絶品でした。

The milk shakes that come out are in 400ml beakers and they are make with super heavy cream and they are yummy, if you can ignore what it might do to your arteries. Matt had the key lime pie shake and it was amazing.

４００ｍｌのビーカーに入って出てきたミルクシェーキは乳脂肪が特に高いクリームで作ってあって心臓動脈への影響を無視するととても美味しかったです。特にマットの頼んだキーライム・パイ味は素晴らしかったです。
